Raymond Ardray Obituary

Ray, member of the Pawnee Nation, was born in Oklahoma City, OK on June 11, 1952. He grew up in Del
City, “the next to the largest city in Oklahoma” according to him.
He played baseball all through school and developed a love for the game. He shared his passion with his
sons, Ryan and Jeff Ardray, and they shared feelings of joy and crushing defeat watching the LA Dodgers
together. Growing up in OK, he also loved Sooner Football and he and his wife of 40 years, Judy, looked
forward to every September for more excitement and, once again, crushing defeat.
Ray worked all of his life until cancer robbed him of his energy. He sold oil and geothermal drilling
equipment for most of his life and cultivated many friends through his work. He was an easygoing guy
who even got along with the more “challenging” personalities.
In addition to his famous pecan pie, Ray was known for his love of music – all kinds. It gave him great
pleasure to “discover” a new artist or to make a great playlist and then share with anyone he believed
would enjoy hearing it. Family, friends and business associates were all beneficiaries of Ray’s musical
gifts. Music was his favorite form of communication.
There was little that Ray wouldn’t try – just scuba diving. Otherwise, he was up for just about any
adventure – travel, new foods, new music. However, he was a loyal kind of guy and always held his old
favorites near and dear and never sacrificed the old for the new.
In addition to his wife and sons, Ray is survived by daughters-in- law, Jessica Ardray (Jeff) and Vanessa
Funk (Ryan); grandchildren, Kandice Hernandez and Roscoe Funk Ardray; sister, Linda Ardray; aunt,
Lucille Hill; and cousins, Chip Hill and Jeannie Walker. He was preceded in death by his dad, Roscoe F.
Ardray and mother, Henrietta Eagle Ardray.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on September 30, at 1 p.m. at the Stockdale Event Center, 201
New Stine Road, Ste 350. You are encouraged to come and share your memories of Ray and have a hot
dog (other options will be available). If you have Sooner or Dodger gear, please feel free to wear. You
may also wear any other team gear you like with the exception of the Texas Longhorns or SF Giants.
