Obituary of Lloyd Henry Norwood
Lloyd Henry Norwood was the third of seventeen children born to Elias and Edelsa (McCutcheon)
Norwood in Dekalb, Texas. Elias moved his growing family to California in 1951, where Lloyd attend Maple Elementary,
and McFarland Middle School, later graduating from South High School in Bakersfield CA in 1964.
As a young adult, Lloyd moved to Los Angeles along with his sister, Georgia. In 1970,
he married Janet Dillard. Together they welcomed their only child; Lloyd Nkrumah Kwame. This union was later dissolved.
Lloyd later moved to Kansas City and eventually back to Bakersfield. He reconnected with
his church home at Emmanuel Temple Church under the leadership of the late Pastor C.V. Davis.
Lloyd would often tell of God’s goodness to him throughout his life. Lloyd became a member of affiliate church,
Lighthouse Christian Ministry, under the leadership of Pastor Donald Vereen.
While back in Bakersfield he worked as the Assistant Director at
Lighthouse Community Center for children and a few other jobs before landing a
position with Aramark at Cal State Bakersfield until his health began to fail.
While there he received many accolades for his work ethic and pleasant demeanor.
He had a warm heart and always had kind words to those he met along the way.
God called Lloyd home, peacefully in the cool of the day on May 21, 2021.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Elias; Brothers Allen & Joe; Sisters, Rhonda and Georgia.
He leaves fond memories of his life to be cherished by his son Lloyd “Kwame” and daughter-n-law Chereta;” 4 grandchildren,
Kihya (David), Malik, Chemari and Chamoni; and his mother Edelsa;
8 brothers, James, Julius (Pam), Gary, Willis, Elias Jr., Glendale, Clifford (Valencia) and Lawrence.
4 Sisters: Juanita, Helen (Jonathan), Wilma, Shennette (Bret); and brother-in-law Clifton Bunn. 2 Aunts Tecil Threadgill,
Hazel Lawrence and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
